  1. I have had 3 German Shepherds who are intuitively smart and I loved dearly but the easiest dog to train and control has been my Queensland Stumpy Tailed Heeler. He also remains energetic and bright at age 16. He never wanders which is the true nature of well bred heelers, who remain at your heels and ready to work. I think you should warn people that they must be highly energetic to have a Border Collie as they have to get high amounts of exercise and work to be happy. If not they can be very disobedient and destructive. They are not an apartment dog that you leave alone all day. I am now approaching 70 but have a lot of time and can take my dog walking and swimming 1-2 hours every day in a warm climate which they are bred for. I am a lifelong runner which has kept my dogs well exercised though I stopped running my cattle dog at 14. I had a lab that also ran until 14. People should also know that dogs are omnivores and all of my dogs have lived very long lives eating tons of dog safe fruit and veggies, exercising, and getting a lot of attention from myself and my family.
