Finally, you are ready to welcome your own ball of fluff in your space after years of hesitation! But hold on, what makes you think you’re ready to adopt a dog?
Are you financially stable enough to provide for your dog? Is your living place suitable for pets? Are you mentally prepared for a dog?
Similar to when you prepare for a newborn or decide to get into a committed relationship, you can’t adopt a dog just because you’re feeling lonely or want something to distract you. That’s quite selfish!
You have to be fully prepared—mentally, emotionally, and financially—to take responsibility and care for a pet by ensuring all their basic needs such as food, vaccine, shelter and safety, and giving them your time which all comes with a cost.
To be absolutely sure that you’re ready to get a dog, make a checklist of the reasons that show you why you shouldn’t!
