The dog breeds that are most at risk for mast cell tumors are the short-faced ones, like French Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boxers. These breeds typically develop mild mast cell tumors, while others like Chinese Shar-Peis have a higher risk of developing very aggressive tumors.
The treatment starts with diagnosing what type of tumor the animal has by retrieving a cell sample, then perform tumor surgical removal. Then, a pathologist should examine the tumor to determine whether further treatment is needed.
