It’s heartbreaking watching your constipated dog suffering to get a few stools out, and it’s not fun for anyone. You can always take your furry friend to the vet and follow a few treatment options, but you can still do a few things to help them feel better and relaxed. There are many home remedies for dog constipation that can make things easier for both of you because, after all, constipation is an unpleasant issue that can create tension in the relationship. So, here are a few ways to help your constipated dog feel better.

1. Canned foods

If you only feel your furry friend kibble or human food, then it’s normal that he suffers from constipation. You need to switch to canned foods because the moisture content can ease the bowel movement of your constipated dog with time. You can ask the vet about what good is best for your pouch to eliminate any risks or allergies.

2. Canned pumpkin

There are many veterinarians that suggest giving your constipated dog canned pumpkin, but you need to be very careful because the added sugars or spices might harm him. In any case, your dog will love it and will eat it all in 3 bites. Canned pumpkin contains high fiber and water content that will help your pup to go to the bathroom. Again, do NOT feed them the ones with contained spices and sugars.

3. Mineral oil or olive oil

If you are wondering what food to give a dog for constipation, then think of anything hydrating, and when you can’t figure it out, you can add a little oil to the constipated dog. It works as a great natural laxative for your dog!  However, you must be a little careful because using too much of it can lead to diarrhea, and we don’t want to replace one digestive problem with another. If you don’t have olive oil, you can mix any mineral oil with the food, mix it well, and let them enjoy their meals.

4. Ginger and chicken broth

Your four-legged friend loves chicken more than you do, probably, so this home remedy will be a blessing for him. You can simply mix ½ cup of chicken broth (you can use beef, too) and ¼ teaspoon of ginger, then watch your poor constipated dog feeling better and begging to go to their bathroom.
