4. Don’t over-complicate things
Saying “shut up,” “shhh,” or “stop” as commands is not a good idea. These words are both confusing and a little harsh. Though your dog can’t understand the words you’re saying, they will pick up on the aggressive tone. Also, a command works better when just one word is associated with it. So whenever your dog is barking and hears a certain word, it will be easier for him to learn what that word means, instead of understanding that five different words are the same command. We advise you to stick with the “Quiet” word and try to use it in a calm but firm way. You don’t have to yell or scream; you have to say the word until your dog understands it confidently.
