2. Not giving them time to adjust

You might pick a dog from the dog shelter because you had a great connection with him, but as soon as you reach home, the dog seems to completely change, maybe he’s constantly hiding or just misbehaving. Don’t worry about this. The dog you fell in love in the shelter is still there, but it’s also normal that your dog is confused, scared, and nervous, after all, his reality changed, his home changed, and his owners changed as well. Try to see it through the dog’s perspective, and don’t get frustrated if things don’t go your way in the beginning. If you have other animals or dogs, it’s important for them to get to know each other while you’re around. Do not leave your dog alone with other pets, he doesn’t know to avoid injuries or trauma! Tip: Consider having a lot of dog treats around during this period of time to help your dog feel welcome and happy in his new home.
