Any fabric softener that is sold in the supermarket is composed of cationic detergents, which are very harmful to dogs’ health. They release positively charged ions (such as quaternary ammonium salts), and these can cause diverse symptoms such as vomiting, excess saliva, oral ulcers, fevers, and any type of dog allergy. Do not let your dog go through this type of situation unnecessarily and keep your fabric softeners properly stored in the pantry or in another dry and difficult to access place. Otherwise, you risk having to take them to the vet for a stomach cleanse.
