As pet parents, we are protective of our dogs. We want to ensure their good health by feeding them high-quality dog food, healthy treats, helping them exercise regularly and stimulating their brains with games and sports, and vaccinating them or taking them for regular vet checkups. All of these responsibilities or dog care essentials help keep your dog healthy and happy, but sometimes even while maintaining a strict dog care routine, your dog can still get sick. Either that or you’re just always left worrying too much about your dog. So, to get some peace of mind, here are the signs your dog is healthy!
1. Your dog has a fresh breath
Healthy teeth and gums can say a lot about your dog’s overall health. If you take care of your dog’s oral hygiene, cleaning their mouth with a dog toothbrush and toothpaste, you can keep gum disease at bay. Gum disease can be a serious threat to your dog’s health to affect vital organs, and be the main cause of tooth loosening or loss. Plaque and tartar build-up is usually the main culprit behind bad breath in dogs, so never neglect them!
2. Consistent healthy weight
A dog losing or gaining weight so fast and for no reason can be a huge indicator that something is wrong. If your dog is overweight, they run the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, bone and joint disease, and sometimes even cancer. It would be wise of you to keep your dog’s weight in check and visit the veterinarian as soon as possible. If your dog is lean and has a healthy weight, then that is a good sign. Make sure to organize your dog’s meals and keep a healthy diet.
3. Your dog is energetic
If your dog is lethargic and unable to move too much, that is a big warning sign, and you need to schedule an appointment with the vet immediately. However, if your dog is energetic, enjoys playtime, and is physically active overall, that is healthy and happy! You should not ignore any changes in your dog’s gait or appetite.
