4. Be careful about Halloween trick-or-treat candies
Halloween means candy, which are dangerous treats for your pet. In case you didn’t know, candies should be kept away from dogs since some of them can be lethal to our little friends. This has to do with an ingredient present in many candies that goes by the name of xylitol. This artificial sweetener causes a quick blood sugar drop and possible seizures to your dog when consumed, making these types of candy poisonous to your dog. Other dangerous foods include: -Chocolate: dark or baking chocolate is dangerous for dogs since it can cause severe diarrhea, vomiting, increased heart rate, and possible seizures. The toxic component, “theobromine” is not properly metabolized by dogs, leading to death when consumed in high quantities. – Fatty chocolate and candies: these foods can cause pancreatitis. – Raisins: these and many nuts are toxic when ingested by dogs; they can be deadly. Be also on the lookout for any strings, sticks, and candy wrappers that may be left on the floor at your house or on the streets after Halloween. When ingested, they can cause serious blockages only removable by surgery.
